The new owners of this Tigard home needed help selecting paint colors. In addition, although they had a considerable collection of artwork and accessories, they wanted direction choosing the best placement for each piece.
Solution
We started by pulling from the color palette of the existing furnishings. Realizing the couple's obvious affinity for earth tones, I selected a warm brown color that could serve multiple functions on the walls throughout the first floor. In the family room, it provided a warm backdrop for the deep burgundy accent color we used to draw the eye to the room’s brick fireplace and flat screen TV.
In the kitchen, the same color was used to play down the existing cabinetry’s pink undertones.
We decided to have a little fun in the half bath, using a deep rust color under the chair rail, with a lighter color wash over it on the upper portion of the walls. This lighter wash gives the walls a look of upholstered suede.
In the guest bath, we chose a light tan color to help visually expand the small space, while pulling in the background of an existing piece of artwork.
For the placement of accessories and artwork, I worked with the couple to determine how they wanted to use each of the individual spaces in their home, and then what part(s) of each room we wanted to draw the eye to. Finally, we selected items that would be harmonious with the room’s color palette, but with enough contrast that they would visually "pop" within the space.
