These clients wanted to completely remodel their newly-purchased Tigard area home. By starting with a totally gutted space, we were able to easily envision the family-friendly, yet beautiful home they had always dreamed of.
Solution
We selected a rich palette of paint colors and finishes that worked well together, giving the whole house a cohesive feel. The entry hall introduces the use of warm brown walls that continue throughout the hallways and stairwell that connect all the rooms together. We contrasted this with a charcoal-colored porcelain tile that mimics natural slate, but stands up better to the wear and cleaning required of an entryway floor.
In the kitchen and dining room, we wanted to create a beautiful space which would draw the attention of visitors.
To that end, we selected rich, warm wood tones for the flooring and cabinetry, coupled with a neutral palette for the walls and tile work. We then added beautiful jewel-toned mosaic tiles to the backsplash and fireplace to catch the light and pull the eye through the space.
We found a wonderful granite countertop with cores of rich garnet running through it. With the stainless steel appliances and warm, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, the kitchen and dining room truly became the showplace the owners envisioned.
In the guest bathroom we used the same style cabinetry and field tiles, adding a warmer rhomboid mosaic tile to highlight the backsplash, floor and shower trim.
In the master bathroom we used Marmoleum flooring, an environmentally-friendly material that helps warm up this small space. The countertop is the same granite we used in the kitchen, and the shower and light fixtures continue our use of the oil-rubbed bronze finish.
Downstairs we built a wet bar in the Family Room to eliminate the need for running upstairs for snacks. We added a sense of fun by accenting the wall behind the bar in a rich purple color which repeats in the laminate we selected for the countertop. The hardware and plumbing fixtures used throughout this level of the house are brushed stainless steel.
